The 2019 Audi e-tron might be the first hybrid powertrain offered by the German carmaker, but it is quickly establishing itself in the industry as the best option out there. This hybrid SUV was recently named a 2019 TOP SAFETY PICK+ by the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety — the top accolade that this non-profit safety organization can give.
To earn this top rating, the Audi e-tron SUV had to earn the top “Good” rating in six crashworthiness areas: small front overlap collision on both sides of the vehicle; moderate front overlap; side impact; roof strength; and head restraints and seat performance.
In addition to these six “Good” ratings, the e-tron also earned a “Good” rating for its standard Matrix Design LED headlights and a “Superior” rating for its standard automatic emergency braking technology. This tech comes as part of the e-tron SUV’s standard Audi pre sense® basic package, which helps prepare a vehicle for impact.
This pre-collision technology works together with a specially designed battery pack that not only offers superior performance, but safety as well. This battery pack is housed in a frame that utilizes an internal honeycomb structure to reduce energy should a collision occur.
Along with the e-tron, other Audi models that have earned the 2019 IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK or TOP SAFETY PICK+ awards include the 2019 Audi A3, A4, A6, and Q8. The e-tron model is available now nationwide, and you can learn more about how to get yours when you stop into Gossett Audi.
