Audi’s Record Sales in 2016 Set New Pace

Audi ended 2016 on a high note with record-setting sales for the year. Even with difficult conditions in some markets, Audi still saw an increase of 3.8% in sales when compared to the previous year. Since 2009, Audi has nearly doubled its success.

In 2009, Audi sold 949,729 vehicles; however, in 2016, that number reached an amazing 1,871,350 units. Sales were up in three key markets, including Europe (7.6%), North America (5.3%), and Asia-Pacific (0.5%).

“2016 proved to be even more challenging for Audi than expected, with strong headwinds in many key markets. We managed to demonstrate the robust strength of our business with balanced growth around the globe,” says Dietmar Voggenreiter, Board Member for Sales and Marketing at AUDI AG.

Leading the sales growth was the new A4 and Q7 models. Year-over-year, the A4’s global sales grew 7.6% with 337,550 units sold. The full-size Q7 SUV had a sales increase of 43.6% with 102,200 new buyers. This was the first time ever the Q7 saw more than 100,000 deliveries in a year.

Audi’s record sales in 2016 mean that 2017 is setting up to be a great year, too. Here in the United States, we’ll see the introduction of both the new A5 Coupe and the new A5 Sportback.
