Audi to Launch Integrated Toll Module Later This Year

Integrated Toll Module If you’ve ever had to travel outside of Tennessee and come across a toll road, you know that the process can be a bit more time-consuming and nerve-wracking than it has any right to be. Fortunately, if you are taking a select new Audi vehicle through a toll road sometime down the line, there’s a chance it might be equipped with special integrated toll road technology that will make the process all the simpler.

According to Audi, it will launch its Integrated Toll Module (ITM) later this year in select new vehicles. The ITM will be built into the rearview mirror and will allow drivers access to toll roads in the United States, as well as in parts of Canada and Mexico. This marks a first for Audi’s continued development of vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) technology, which allows Audi vehicles to communicate with their surroundings for smoother and safer driving experiences.

The ITM is also intended to help reduce the unsightly clutter that builds up in and around the windshields of drivers who have to pass through tolls on a regular basis. The technology will be adjustable through Audi’s MMI interface, allowing drivers the option to turn the technology on or off or change vehicle occupant settings to accommodate HOV/HOT lanes.

Co-developed with Centex Corporation, who has teamed with Audi in the past to develop its automatic-dimming rearview mirrors, the ITM is set to roll out on as-yet unnamed Audi models later this year.
