Audi is known for offering superior power under the hood of its vehicles, and this year is no exception. The German carmaker has earned the title of International Engine of the Year for its 2.0 TFSI® engine in the class of engine with between 150 and 250 horsepower.
To determine the winners of this category, a panel of 70 automotive journalists voted after analyzing a range of eligible engines. The jury stated that the engine is “one of the most flexible and versatile engines every to be developed— in short, it can do it all.”
This isn’t the first time that Audi has walked away with this title. As Hans-Joachim Rothenpieler, a Member of the Board of Management of AUDI AG for Technical Development, reminds us, the TFSI® has been honored for excellence every year since its introduction in 2004.
From 2005 to 2009, Audi earned the International Engine of the Year title in the 2.0-liter category with the 2.0 TFSI®. It went on to earn the title in the larger class with the five-cylinder 2.5 TFSI® from 2010 to 2018. Now, the 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine has earned a spot on the winners’ podium once again.
Audi was the first carmaker in the world to combine turbocharging and direct injection in a mass-produced engine. This was first done in 2004 and continues to give Audi a reputation for performance. Currently, the 2.0 TFSI® is available on ten Audi products, producing up to 245 horsepower.
